A pair of gunbai-like steel fan (铁扇) – a traditional fan in steel coating used in martial arts and ancient warfare. Yu Tien uses it for defense, mostly to ward off attacks and block them. Other times she may use it as a throwing weapon. She also uses it to cool herself off because she is not used to the climate in America. Given to her by her grandmother.

● Personality:
Though Yu Tien seems quiet and well-mannered initially, she really is quite the brat. She breaks out of her “good” demeanor easily, being so easily agitated and distracted. In other words, she can’t behave unless she is forced to. Yu Tien is very short-tempered and makes equally blunt and honest comments that would insult anyone with a gut. She has a sharp tongue, an improper humor, and enjoys taunting people (though it usually comes back and bites her in the butt). Instead of teasing someone, she would end up being the one teased. She is the rudest to the people she cares most about as she doesn’t open herself up to those who are not her friends. AHAHAHA STUPID LOAD OF CRAP YOU SUCK AHAHA-/smacked.

She may seem arrogant and immature, but in reality, she just doesn’t know how to express her feelings properly. Yuyu also gets super attached to an extent of being clingy with her friends. Her over-clinginess combined with her acute senses makes her a bit overprotective of the people she cares about. However, when she’s alone or lost, she cries because it reminds her of the past. Yu Tien is very forgiving and loyal to people, though she doesn’t give her trust out easily. Yuyu also isn’t ashamed to brag about her talents, and openly claims herself as a genius “BECAUSE I REALLY AM A GENIUS AHAHAHA. She generally lacks manner and common sense.

● Backstory:
Yu Tien was born to parents who were officials in the Chinese government. Yu Tien was raised and trained in a brutally strict system at the “Institute”, a boarding school in mainland China, instead of growing up in a loving family. Due to the fact that her parents sent her to the Institute with no contact for 7 years, her relationship with them was bitter. Along with hundreds of other children, Yu Tien endured military-like trainings daily. The children are not students in a typically harsh Chinese school; they were trained to serve the Chinese government. They were only allowed to go home on Sundays, but Yu Tien would instead go to her grandmother’s house, whom she loves like her own mother.

Out of the fear of the severe punishments, children at the Institute were to obey every order, command, and law without questioning. However, Yu Tien was not afraid. There was an incident at the Institute when Yu Tien used her stealth and courageously sneaked three large loafs of sweet bread from the teachers’ lounge into her dormitory for her roommates. Thinking that they would become her friends, she was instead betrayed by them, who sold her out to the teachers. She received unspeakable punishments for theft and was mentally scarred during the process. Through that experience, she decided not to trust anyone at all and became very closed-off to others.

Yu Tien became the student that the Institute ironed children into, and was able to “graduate” and released at the age of 10. Though she is an overachiever, she lacks the familial love from her parents and holds a grudge against them. She was finally free until her parents stepped in to send her off to another academy to resume her studies and improve in her fields, which is speed and agility. She was chosen as the special honor student from the Institute (with the influence of her parents), and received a letter from Daybrooke as an invitation to the school.

It was when Yu Tien first arrived in the United States with an outdated map and no knowledge of the place that she met Scarlet. Though hostile at first, Yu Tien quickly bonded with Scarlet and also with her little brother (HEHEHEHEH). Because of her lack of common sense, she expresses her friendship with Scarlet, and taunts her 24/7. Although she doesn’t show it, she respects Scarlet because she reminded Yu Tien of her grandmother. They became closer and closer as they went to the same school and (literally) live next to each other. Scarlet was Yu Tien’s very first friend and became attached to her, even sleeping over at her house almost every night.

● Extra:

- It was love at first sight the first time she ever tasted heaven chocolate.
- She is fluent in 6 languages, ranging from Asian to European languages.
- Is not very familiar with technology and is afraid of massage chairs, thinking that they are electric chairs (for execution by electrocution).
- Forgets things she finds boring very easily, including people pfff.
- Finds dancing soothing.
